Essential Homeschooling |

Essential homeschooling is not about trying to mimic a classroom setting at home, expensive curriculum and stressful learning. It's setting our eyes on Christ and offering up our lives for His service. It's finding simplicity in daily living and loving each other, embracing the challenges and cherishing the moment because we know these years won't last and what we instill in our children today will determine who they will be tomorrow.
With six people in a small house, I am always looking for the best tips to make my life simpler and laundry is one of those areas that I need simplicity the most. So I have plenty of pins on my "cleaning" board on Pinterest devoted to helping me out in this dreaded area. These are my top five favs: #1 Best way to wash pillowsDid you know your pillows should be machine washed once a year? But how do you get them clean and then keep them from turning a "wonky" shape in the process? Here's the process:
#2 Shake it offShake your clothes when transferring them from the washer to the dryer to improve drying time. Most of you probably are ahead of the game on this one but seriously it took about ten years of marriage for me to figure it out. SMH. Now I wonder every time I'm doing laundry why I didn't figure it out when I was younger. Duh moment here. But I'll hide behind the excuse that I was busy raising babies. #3 Wash socks in a mesh bagAnother no brainer here but really...why didn't I do this when the kids were toddlers and we had those tiny socks that kept getting lost!? Keeping them in a mesh bag makes it easier to pair them up after they are dry...no more losing a mate to your favorite socks. #4 Pretreat a makeup smudge with shaving creamI've not had a chance to try this one out yet but supposedly it works like a charm. Remembering this the next time my oldest comes home with makeup on her Judo gi from her sparring partner. #5 Dry erase remindersGot one item in the load that you don't want to get thrown in the dryer? Write a reminder on the top of the washer so you don't forget and toss it in the dryer by mistake #6 Get rid of stubborn armpit odor and stains with lemon juice and baking sodaAnother idea I'm saving for a rainy day...or rather for the stubborn gi smells #7 Clean your iron with dryer sheetsTired of the junk left behind on the iron? Try this quick little tip. Turn your iron on the lowest setting. Gently rub over a dryer sheet. Voila! Bye bye iron junk.
