We were blessed to be able to spend the holiday weekend with family from out of town. The kids enjoyed spending time with their cousin (who, after living with us for some time a year ago, feels more like their sister. We definitely enjoy it when she comes "home". We found out that you are never too old for a glow in the dark Easter egg hunt, baskets and bubbles. I'm sweetly thrilled to see that even though we have teens in the house they still find excitement in all the traditions we have always enjoyed. I found a really cute idea on Pinterest. Plastic Easter eggs + glow sticks = fun....no matter how old you are! We had to tape the eggs shut because they kept wanting to pop open. Once it got dark the men hid the eggs outside, which was perfect because the weather this weekend has been wonderful. The kids were so excited and I had fun sitting on the porch watching them run all over the yard, laughing. Having family in we put together five baskets this year, three of which were teens and again I find that things don't change much as they get older. First of all, you can't go wrong with chocolate. I added some facial masks, body wash and lip balm for the teen girls which I put in these really cute bags I found at Bath and Body. They were very pleased with them, discussing how they could be used for camp or as a make up bag. Case got some Axe body spray, a cool Shelby tee and the Reese egg he wanted. The littles got small toys in addition to their candy. And momma snacked on too much chocolate...but hey it's Easter! I added a bottle of scented bubbles to everyone's basket and I think the teens had more fun with them than the littles did. LOL! We wrapped up the weekend with a wonderful morning service at church singing praises to the risen savior and I've had the lyrics stuck in my head and on my lips all day. "Worthy is the lamb who was slain, worthy is the king who conquered the grave..." Although Emma wasn't feeling well she didn't want to miss out on the resurrection story craft and pudding & peeps in Sunday school, children's church and dinner with my side of the family. We ended the day with supper on the grill and playing frisbie with the dog in the front yard. Can't help feeling blessed as the weekend comes to a close. God is faithful and He Is Worthy! Happy Easter, peeps!

The Essential Blog
Essential homeschooling is not about trying to mimic a classroom setting at home, expensive curriculum and stressful learning. It's setting our eyes on Christ and offering up our lives for His service. It's finding simplicity in daily living and loving each other, embracing the challenges and cherishing the moment because we know these years won't last and what we instill in our children today will determine who they will be tomorrow.
