It’s that time of year again. Back to school is just around the corner. If you’re not ready to face it just take a step into Wal-Mart, with their back to school aisles full of markers, binders and backpacks. It’s inevitable. My kids love back to school shopping, especially my sweet Hannah who is nearing the end of her high school career. There’s something about back to school that feels new, fresh even. Back to school time always becomes a time of reflection for me. A time to look back on what we’ve accomplished and how far we’ve come. This year I’m asking myself “have we really been doing this for going on 9 years?” Nearly a decade ago God stirred in our hearts the notion of homeschooling. To say it’s been more than we ever imagined going in would be an understatement. |
Christian momma, you are important! Your efforts at this exact moment, whether you are nursing a baby, training a temperamental toddler, homeschooling, sending your children to school, teaching your teenager to drive, it all matters to God. God knows your task is bigger than you. He knows you wonder if you are doing enough, or holding on too tight. He knows that you question every move you make, wondering if your children know you love them. He knows that you feel like your best efforts are in vain most days, rest assured they are not. You may feel like the life He has asked you to lead is not important or maybe the opposite, that it’s more than you can do. Regardless, guaranteed if you stay the course and cling to Him, you will look back one day on your path and realize that it was for His glory. I don’t ask anymore why He called us to do something as unorthodox as homeschooling our children, I am slowing seeing that what He asks us to do is always going to be something we don’t understand. He sees the bigger picture and how our tiny puzzle piece, as jagged and strange as it is, fits into His picture exactly the way it needs to. It’s enough for me that after nine years I see the fulfilment of His promise to us, He truly has been teaching our children, and us, all along and our family can rest in His peace. So today, do what God asks YOU to do. Not what He asked the person who sits in front of you in church to do. Your calling is of great value to God's plan and the fact that He asked you to do it is proof that He will never fail in enabling you to fulfill it.
