It's that time of year again. Springtime brings a calendar full of birthdays starting with our Emma's April birthday. In our house birthdays kind of a big deal. Although we don't usually have parties we have a tradition of decorating....big. Each year the kids wake to find the kitchen decked out in a theme they are currently interested in. For Emma this year that theme is Alice in Wonderland. She is somewhere between an interest and an obsession when it comes to Alice in Wonderland and has given me a ton of ideas over the past few months for her decorations. It was a sweet theme and so much fun to plan. What could be better than quirky quotes, wacky décor and mismatched colors? From clocks to tea cups and saucers to playing cards the Alice in Wonderland birthday was full of fun ideas to decorate with. I chose to use the antique sewing table in my kitchen as a place setting for a white tea set. I used my sister in law's Cricut to cut out the letters and shapes for our direction signs declaring "This Way" "That Way" and "Down the Rabbit Hole". My sister in law also let us borrow her cute concrete garden rabbit...he made a perfect "Mr. Rabbit" to follow down a spiraling hole don't you think?! I used our main dining room table as the setting for our mismatched teacups and saucers as well as food and presents. Emma asked for cinnamon rolls for breakfast so I arranged them on the cupcake stand for presentation along with a sign declaring "Eat Me" beside a key. I'm crazy about this whimsical banner made by my wonderful and exceptionally creative sister in law. It doesn't get much more "wonderland-ish" than this! We couldn't wait to dive into our Cheshire Cat cake cups made with layered white cake and purple icing with coordinating sprinkles on top. Yum! Topping it off is our very own "Alice". Emma was so excited about all the cute decorations. And of course a trip to wonderland wouldn't be compete without playing a game of croquet. What a wonderful, whimsical and wistful day to celebrate a witty and charming little girl who brings sparkle and sunshine to our lives.

The Essential Blog
Essential homeschooling is not about trying to mimic a classroom setting at home, expensive curriculum and stressful learning. It's setting our eyes on Christ and offering up our lives for His service. It's finding simplicity in daily living and loving each other, embracing the challenges and cherishing the moment because we know these years won't last and what we instill in our children today will determine who they will be tomorrow.
